Dual Enrollment Policy

SCA partners with Copiah Lincoln Community College to offer a dual enrollment program to our high school juniors and seniors. Dual enrollment allows students the opportunity to earn college credit while still enrolled in high school at a discounted rate of $125 with additional fees related to technology use, etc. Students taking more than 15 hours (5 classes at 3 hours each) will be charged full tuition and fees. Fees are the responsibility of the student and should be paid in full each semester to Copiah Lincoln CC prior to enrolling for the next semester.

    • Students must have earned 14 core carnegie units

    • Earned minimum overall high school GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale

    • Taken the ACT at least once for certain courses or meet specific ACT requirements of a 17 for English Comp 1 and 19 for College Algebra

  • Dual credit for both high school Carnegie unit and college course credit will only be awarded for DC English Comp I and DC English Comp II in place of Senior English IV; DC Art Appreciation or DC Music Appreciation in place of high school Art; and DC College Algebra is in place of a Senior math. These dual credit courses must be taken at Simpson Academy with our dual enrollment instructors for English Comp I and II and College Algebra. Additionally, Art Appreciation or Music Appreciation must be taken on campus under the supervision of our dual enrollment monitor. High school Carnegie unit credit will not be awarded by SCA for these courses if taken through any other method or outside institution.

    • DC English Comp I will be offered during the Fall of the senior year and DC English Comp II will follow during the Spring semester. Students must take both of these courses at SCA and earn a passing grade in each to earn credit in place of high school English IV.

    • DC Art Appreciation or DC Music Appreciation should be taken during the Fall of the senior year in place of high school Art.

    • DC College Algebra will be offered during the Spring semester of the senior year. Students are required to complete Advanced Algebra during the Fall semester before taking College Algebra. Students must take both of these courses and earn a passing grade in each to earn credit in place of a senior math requirement.

    • Additional dual enrolled courses taken during the Junior or Senior year will NOT be added to the high school transcript for Carnegie unit requirements toward graduation. However, they are part of the college transcript and GPA. Recommended dual enrollment courses for Junior and/or Senior year: Western Civilization I, Western Civilization II, General Psychology, and Sociology.

Final averages for each of the 4 dual credit courses (English Comp 1, English Comp 2, Art or Music Appreciation, and College Algebra) will be weighted by 1.10 on the high school transcript and used for high school class ranking as well as Valedictorian, Salutatorian, and Historian. Again, Dual Credit course grades WILL BECOME part of the high school transcript and GPA as they take the place of SCA’s current required courses for graduation.

Dual credit courses that are added to the high school transcript (listed above) are weighted by 1.10. However, the student will also receive the original grade earned in the college course without the weighted grade on their official college transcript. If a student chooses to repeat a dual credit course while enrolled at SCA, the first grade originally earned will be the grade placed on the high school transcript and averaged in the overall GPA.
